JOB OVERVIEW  (Note: in addition to these functions, employees are required to carry out such duties that may reasonably be required)

  • As a domiciliary care worker you will be an essential part of our client’s daily routine, safely providing ‘Person-Centred Care’ to a variety of people who still live in their own homes, requiring a level of additional support enabling them to maintain their dignity, independence and a good quality of life.
  • The clients we visit have a range of different needs including dementia, sensory deprivation and mobility issues.  Training will be given at the outset to enable you to deal with these needs, including medication management, manual handling,  safeguarding, COSH, Good record keeping is essential and you will need to have a good understanding of the client care plans, which have been tailored to the individual needs of each client. In order to maintain standards of care, regular training updates will be given. Good personal hygiene is imperative.
  • It is a challenging and interesting role requiring patience and understanding. It is important to listen and observe the client’s needs, respecting their dignity at all times you will always be working as part of a team, so it’s essential you are able to communicate with others. You will need to communicate closely with the client and their families as well as your coordinator.
  • Good time keeping is essential.
  • To provide care in accordance with best practice and legislative requirements, reflecting policies and procedures and agreed standards under the direction of Manager and team leader
  • To support and enable Service Users to maintain skills and personal interests whilst delivering person-centred care unique to each individual.
  • To maintain skills at a current level, undertake such training and development as required from time to time to maintain and progress knowledge

WORKING HOURS : As per your individual contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE JOB

Role Specific Duties (Some example of some of the duties involved, this list is not exhaustive)

  • Ensure that the Service User is at the heart of care delivery and their wishes and preferences enhance their wellbeing
  • Ensure that care plans and other information about how to support the Service User are followed
  • Support Service Users to maintain their relationships and connections with the local community.
  • Be responsible for informing Team Leader of any changes in the needs of the Service User.
  • Assistance with washing and shaving and skin care.
  • Assistance with dressing and undressing.
  • Help to get in or out of bed.
  • Medication management, as prescribed in accordance with agreed protocols.
  • Food and drink preparation
  • Support with meal planning, shopping. Healthy eating.
  • Making beds, changing linen.
  • Assisting with laundry
  • Social activities like accompanying client on visits
  • Hobbies and recreational activities
  • Record keeping- recording daily notes
  • Completing MAR sheets accurately
  • Completing incident reports
  • Identifying and reporting possible safeguarding concerns
  • Reporting possible hazards
  • Ensuring confidentiality at all times
